Preparing for holiday parties can be stressful, but there are numerous things that you can do to make it easier. The good news is that most of what you can do in your kitchen before the holidays get here is super easy and doesn’t take a lot of time.
Here are 4 helpful tips as you prepare your kitchen for holiday parties:
This is something that you should do throughout the year, but if you have been a little lax recently, don’t worry. Simply go through your kitchen and remove everything that shouldn’t be in there. This includes your children’s homework, the piles of mail and papers that need to be filed, and anything in your junk drawer. We also recommend going through your kitchen and see what items are broken, damaged, or missing pieces, and tossing it all. That way you know what you need to purchase before you make your first batch of cookies, instead of having the cookie dough ready and not having any cookie sheets.
- Add Practical Storage
Installing storage in a kitchen is a necessity, but we urge you to add practical storage whenever you can. A lazy Susan is an excellent option for those odd spaces in corners, as they will allow you to store quite a bit without needing to crawl into the cabinet to find anything. Other options that we recommend include pull out shelving in cabinets, as it makes it easier for you to find things.
- Add a Rug
Rugs are not very practical in kitchens, but during the holiday season, they can help prevent falls on slippery floors. We recommend placing a non-stick mat under the rug, so it will not move or create a wrinkle that people can trip over.
- Lock Things Up
Little children are everywhere during the holidays, which is why we urge you to lock certain items up. Sharp knives, glassware, and other breakable items should be in cabinets and drawers with safety locks, so that no children end up grabbing them and getting hurt. Safety locks are also necessary for under your sink, if that is where you keep your cleaning supplies. Remember, little children move quickly and quietly, so you may not know what they are into until it is too late!
These four things will make your kitchen a safer place this holiday season, but don’t worry if you don’t get to them all. Just put a holiday plant in the middle of your kitchen counter, put a smile on your face, and enjoy this season with family and friends! Everything else can wait!
